Attorney Mark Powell Instructs on Pennsylvania DUI Law

Attorney Mark Powell recently instructed a continuing legal education course for the Lackawanna Bar Association on Birchfield v. North Dakota, a recent Supreme Court decision that dramatically affects Pennsylvania’s drunk driving law. The seminar was attended by 85 fellow attorneys from Lackawanna County.

Powell is board-certified as both a Criminal Trial Specialist and Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a Fellow of the National College of Advocacy and a Fellow of the American College of Board Certified Attorneys. He earned his Master of Laws in Trial Advocacy with honors from Temple University Law School, his Juris Doctor degree from Catholic University Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University.

He is a past president of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and a recipient of its Lawrence W. Roth Award for his compassion for victims and exemplary character. The state Supreme Court appointed him as a member of the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board Hearing Committee where he served two six-year terms. As a Hearing Committee member, Attorney Powell adjudicated ethical complaints filed against lawyers throughout the state.

For 10 years, he co-chaired the Lackawanna Bar Association’s Bench-Bar Educational Conference. In addition, he is a member of the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy where he teaches programs on Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Skills at both Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C., and Temple University Law School in Philadelphia.

Attorney Powell recently announced his candidacy for Lackawanna County District Attorney.
