Attorney Mark J. Powell of Scranton recently served as an instructor for the Advanced Trial Skills seminar sponsored by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy at the U.S. District Courthouse in Washington, D.C.
Powell, a partner in the Scranton-based Powell Law firm, has served as an instructor at NITA seminars in Washington, D.C., each year since 2004. At this year’s seminar, he co-lectured with his brother, Attorney Thomas J. Powell, a Scranton native who practices in Fairfax, Va.
Mark Powell earned his juris doctorate from Catholic University Law School and a Master of Laws degree from Temple University Law School. He is one of the only attorneys in the region to hold certifications as a Civil Trial Specialist, Civil Pretrial Specialist and Criminal Trial Specialist from the National Board of Trial Advocacy. His practice encompasses a wide range of personal injury and criminal matters.
Powell is past President of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers and a recipient of its Lawrence W. Roth Award; member of the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice; member of the American Association for Justice and National Trial Lawyers Association; member of the Lackawanna Bar Association, where he served as co-chair of the annual Bench Bar Conference; and a past senior hearing committee member for the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board.
Thomas Powell earned his juris doctorate from George Washington University and a Master of Laws degree from Temple University Law School. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and serves as an adjunct professor in the University of Maryland’s Clark School of Engineering. His practice encompasses commercial litigation, construction law and litigation, government contracts, employment litigation and civil rights.
He is a member of the Virginia, Pennsylvania, District of Colombia and American bar associations, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Virginia and Pennsylvania CLE Associations, and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Powell Law, which focuses on serious personal injury litigation and criminal defense, has offices in Scranton, Stroudsburg, Taylor and Moscow.
